‘Sense of Place’, 100 enamel bowls

In 2016 I won the Rosy James Memorial Trust Award, of £15,000.  This unique bursary, administered by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland on behalf of the Rosy James Memorial Trust, aims to assist craft makers to develop their careers by developing a body of work which might otherwise have been unattainable.

I applied for the award to learn to enamel from my mum, Deirdre McCrory. As a three dimensional maker I didn’t want to learn to enamel on flat metal and started with a small 3cm pressed bowl. As I experimented the bowls grew in number until I reached 100. Not every bowl worked but I learnt something from each one.
